This page is dedicated to the Bass and Drums duo Ak & Zuie. Ak is Stephen Jay,
who for the better part of the last 20 years has been bassist for "Weird Al" Yankovic. His background includes a MM in music composition and several years in Africa studying the Dundun (talking drum) and making archival recordings of
traditional African music. While keeping his "day job" with Al, Stephen has been composing and recording his own music with Pete Gallagher, aka Zuie, the drummer for the band.
They characterize their music as a mixture of West African rhythms with elements of Rock and Jazz. Since the music is performed with just Bass and Drums one could mistakenly dismiss this art form as "simple," but the end result is a sound so complex and rich, you have to hear them live to believe it.
